Additional mathematics with logical thinking

We used to learn mathematics in school, how about additional mathematics?

I am an art stream student during my high school, which means additional mathematics is not a compulsory subject. But still, we can pick it as an elective subject. And yup, I attended the class. Not just me, but almost everyone in the art class. Because we thought mathematics is not difficult to learn, so additional mathematics will just like a piece of cake.

For the first few weeks, everyone was still remain in the class, trying to apply what have learnt and solve the questions on tutorials. 2 months later, some students decided to drop the subject. When it came to the third month, students started to wonder ‘Why do we learn additional mathematics?’ ‘Do we need all this complicated staff when we graduate?’

Besides, there were some comments like ‘We will not going to use all this formula when we go to supermarket.’ ‘Basic math is enough for us to survive in our community.’ ‘I know my future career, nothing is going to work with math.’

As students leaving all this message and leaving the class. The teacher was stepping out. She said: “Yes, you guys may not have to work on all this complicated formula in your future life. But how about logical thinking? In order to solve the question, you have to follow step by step and using the correct way. Or else you will get stuck in the middle. Besides, it helps to build your problem solving skills.”

After listening what had mentioned by the teacher, I’m like “kind of true, maybe I should continue studying instead of dropping the subject. Also, don’t make yourself focus on the grade or score, but the process of studying.” At the end, I have finished the subject until the day I graduated. And yup, I can’t deny I have gained at least 1% of the logical thinking.
