摘要：
The article discusses how social and economic changes have affected ethnic tourism in Southeastern Asia. The author suggests that expansion of capitalism and and increases in travel opportunities to post-communist nations have led to the development of ethnic tourism. He comments on tours in Thailand allowing tourists to visit with hill tribes and how the Thai government has shifted its focus from backpackers to wealthy tourists due to economic development. The construction of roads has increased ethnic tourism in Yunnan, China. Resorts and accommodations for tourists and the exploitation of Padaung women as a tourist attraction in Thailand are described.
