Commercial real estate (CRE) is property used exclusively for business-related purposes or to provide a work space rather than a living space, which would instead constitute residential real estate. Most often, commercial real estate is leased to tenants to conduct income-generating activities. This broad category of real estate can include everything from a single storefront to a huge shopping center.
Investing in commercial real estate can require more capital from investors than does residential real estate. Publicly traded real estate investment trusts (REITs) can be a feasible way for individuals to indirectly invest in commercial real estate.

Why is 'Commercial Real Estate' the Term of the Day?
CBRE
As interest rates rise and concerns about a potential recession linger, a majority of commercial real estate investors surveyed by real estate services and investment firm CBRE said they are looking to pull back on purchases this year.
More than half of respondents at 60% intend to buy less real estate this year, while just 15% expect to buy more, according to CBRE’s 2023 U.S. Investors Intentions Survey released yesterday. Almost half also said they would be cutting back purchases by more than 10%.
Overall, CBRE expects commercial real estate investment volume in 2023 to drop 15% from 2022. However, the group did note that investment activity could improve in the second half of the year, as interest rates and economic conditions stabilize.
